th. If you experience any of the following five signs your furnace may need replacement, you can consult with an expert to ensure you stay comfortable and healthy this winter.
Consider the Age of Your Furnace: If your furnace is approaching 16 years old, it’s time to begin searching for a replacement. A furnace at this age is likely to experience breakdowns and will not be as energy efficient.
Increased Gas or Electricity Consumption: If you notice your gas or electric bills increasing, check to see if this is caused by consumption or usage and not simply a price increase. Rising consumption suggests your furnace is no longer operating at peak levels and may soon need replacement.
Flame is More Yellow Than Blue: Look at the flame on your gas furnace. If the flame is yellow this means it’s not burning gas sufficiently and is producing harmful carbon monoxide.
Odd Sounds: At the end of their lives, furnaces often make odd sounds, such as popping, banging and squealing noises. You may also notice that your blower fan is running excessively as well.
Dry and Dusty: If the air in your home is very dry and there’s a lot of dust, this may mean it’s time to replace your furnace. An efficient furnace should provide clean air and sufficient humidity to keep indoor air healthy.
