Understanding Low-NOx
NOx is an abbreviation used to describe Nitrogen Oxides, a family of reactive and toxic greenhouse gases. When fuel is burned at high heat, such as in the heat exchanger of your furnace, nitrogen oxide gases are released. The main nitrogen oxides produced in the combustion process are all referred to as NOx, including NO and NO2.
A Low-NOX burner has a low emission of NOx in the fuel combustion process. Such a furnace can reduce nitrogen oxide emissions.
